Edge Protection Training

Roof height edge protection systems have been designed and tested by a number of companies over the years, but other than in-house training / familiarisation, there was no way of ensuring the competency of the operatives.

The FASET Training Committee developed this course so that installer companies and site managers can ensure the operatives understand the scope of BS EN 13374: 2013+A1_2018 Temporary edge protection systems – Product specification – Test methods, and can competently understand engineers’ drawings and then install the system to that specification.

All FASET Training is delivered by our Training Centres. Please make direct contact with them regarding pricing and availability. CLICK HERE TO VISIT OUR TRAINING CENTRE PAGE

The one day course covers the use of edge protection components, how to interpret drawings and how to install the system to those drawings. It includes theory and importantly, practical installation at height utilising a MEWP.  It also includes detail on fittings, method of fitting and drawing interpretation.  The candidates are then required to gain experience on site installing these systems before completing a General Site Assessment (GSA-2) to ensure their competence.

The course outcome is that learners will be able to understand and work to the requirements of the Standard and industry good practice when installing designed Edge Protection to portal frame buildings.  It is important to note that this is NOT a scaffolding course.

If competence is demonstrated, the operative can apply to FASET for an endorsement to their CSCS Safety Net Rigger Blue Skilled Worker card or, if they are not a safety net rigger, apply to FASET for a Blue Skilled Worker Operative card. The endorsement / card has a life of 5 years and can be renewed by re-sitting the FASET Edge Protection Operative Training Course and re-taking the GSA-2.  If competence is not demonstrated, a further site assessment may be organised following a period of supervised work to gain experience.  Course attendance does no guarantee a CSCS card.
