Build UK has published an executive summary of the National Infrastructure and Construction Procurement Pipeline 2020/21 to help the industry understand recent Government announcements on the delivery of £37 billion of economic and social infrastructure projects.
Build UK is a representative organisation for the UK construction industry, formed by the September 2015 merger of the UK Contractors Group and the National Specialist Contractors Council. It is also an important partner of FASET. During the lockdown period, Build UK has been a vital source of information, guidance and updates for the construction industry, via its website at builduk.org and through regular bulletins and weekly conference calls.
The National Infrastructure and Construction Procurement Pipeline 2020/21 was drawn up by Government in response to the Construction Leadership Council’s Roadmap to Recovery to provide the construction industry with better visibility and certainty of current and future project flow, in order to help companies rebound from the coronavirus crisis.
The executive summary shows a breakdown of 340 public sector contracts by sector, together with when they will actually be awarded, and more granular detail on each contract can be found in the pipeline workbook.
The following are not included in the pipeline:
- Projects where contracts have already been awarded or where funding has already been drawn down
- Projects in the early stages of development
- Defence contracts due to reasons of confidentiality
- Health contracts as the Department of Health and Social Care was not subject to the pipeline commission due to coronavirus. The National Infrastructure Strategy will be published later in 2020, as well as a full 10-year projection of spend in a National Infrastructure and Construction Pipeline.
FASET (Fall Arrest Safety Equipment Training) is the not-for-profit organisation that promotes safety within the construction and FM sectors through training and guidance for its members. The ‘new normal’ has brought a wave of new challenges as well as opportunities and FASET exists to give its support individuals and organisations.
