Guidance

Loading of Safety Nets

The loading of Safety Nets should be avoided. This includes debris & material contamination and people. In the winter, snow load becomes a consideration.

Loading the Safety Net can cause the safety net to sag excessively and increase the fall distance. Debris & material contamination in the safety net may cause additional harm to a “faller”.

Loading may cause the meshes to suffer damage that may affect the Safety Nets designed performance in the event of a fall.

To prevent the aforementioned issues, those responsible for site operations should ensure the nets are kept clear of debris & material contamination (and snow in winter) at all times.

When the Safety Nets are cleared, a competent person should make an assessment of the condition of the loaded nets prior to allowing work to continue above the nets.

NB: Evidence of this level of competence should be sought from the Rigging Company.
