Already in use on more than 1,000 sites across the UK, it provides a quick and secure way to confirm that cards are genuine, current and appropriate for the work being carried out.

The platform enables users to:

• Confirm that a card is genuine and in date
• Check that the holder has the correct training and qualifications for their role
• Identify fraudulent, revoked or fake cards
• Support their responsibilities under the Building Safety Act
• Generate valuable workforce data and identify potential skills gaps

CSCS Smart Check can be accessed in three ways: through the mobile app, via the dedicated website or using an API integrated into existing site access and induction systems.

The addition of the browser-based service means cards can now be checked quickly from a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile device without downloading the app.

Why every card should be checked

Holding a card displaying the CSCS logo provides evidence that an individual has completed the appropriate qualifications and training for their occupation. However, employers and site managers must still verify the card to ensure it is genuine and remains valid.

A visual inspection may not identify a fraudulent, revoked or expired card. Regular electronic verification helps employers understand who is working on their sites and whether they have the right credentials for the role they are performing.

The information generated through Smart Check can also help organisations identify training requirements, understand skills across different sites and regions and provide evidence to support social value, public procurement and Section 106 commitments.
