COVID-19 and the construction sector

As the trade association and training body for the safety netting and temporary safety systems industry, FASET monitors the latest developments in the construction sector, particularly regarding worker health and safety, sustainability and equality.

It has been a week since England moved to Step 4 of the UK government’s COVID-19 roadmap. This has seen the removal of many restrictions, but what is the position of the construction sector and what is the procedure on site?

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), you must still control risk and review and update your risk assessment.

The HSE’s updated webpage on keeping workplaces safe outlines some of the changes you need to know about:

  • controls to use after some restrictions are removed
  • other measures to help reduce workplace transmission
  • different approaches and timescales for removal of restrictions in Scotlandand Wales

You must continue to consult your workforce on health and safety matters. Talking to workers and their representatives helps you to reduce risk.
