As the trade association and training body for the safety netting and temporary safety systems industry, FASET monitors the latest developments in the construction sector, particularly regarding worker health and safety (and COVID), sustainability and equality.
Earlier this week the Prime Minister announced a four-week delay to the fourth and final stage of the COVID-19 Roadmap, citing the need to ease off the accelerator until the overwhelming majority of adults in the UK are vaccinated. Current restrictions are now expected to remain in place until Monday 19th July, including working from home where possible, and the move to Step 4 will be confirmed one week in advance.
This means there is no change for construction at this time and sites should continue to implement the Site Operating Procedures as well as The Use of Face Coverings in Construction during Coronavirus. The rapid spread of the Delta variant has also delayed publication of the Government’s review into social distancing. Build UK – the representative organisation for the UK construction industry – will review the Site Operating Procedures and other guidance once it is published.
The Scottish Government has also indicated there will be a three-week delay to its plans to move to Level 0, which would mean Level 1 restrictions remain in place until 19th July, bringing it line with England.
The Common Assessment Standard is reviewed every year to ensure that it continues to meet the pre-qualification requirements of the industry. Version 3 will be published on 1st January 2020 and the dedicated Common Assessment Standard Review Group, comprised of representatives from across Build UK membership and the wider industry, including BEIS and BSI, will be meeting in July to discuss what changes may be required. Members can submit any suggested changes for consideration by 2nd July.
