Pinning Nets
When overlapping safety nets, it is important that the overlap in the middle of the two nets is greater than 2m or 20 meshes.
Where this cannot be achieved, it is acceptable to lace the top border rope to the lower mesh and then the lower border rope to the top mesh. Use 12mm tie rope or 8mm type O rope. This technique is called pinning and prevents the two nets from opening in the event of a fall. The lacing technique should be fed through every other mesh as shown below.
It is recommended that pinning should not be employed when the distance between the two border ropes in the middle is less than 1m. If this is unachievable, then the nets should be laced together.
Note: there is a hierarchy of joining nets:
1. Lacing using type O rope. If this is not possible:
2. Minimum 2m Overlap (measured in the middle). If this is not possible:
3. Minimum 2m Overlap (measured in the middle). If this is not possible
Point 3 to remain as a recommendation until testing demonstrates otherwise.
