Under-Rolling to Size Safety Nets
BS EN1263/2 does not specify ways in which safety nets should be reduced in size to fit the void being filled. It is good practice to always oversize the net by 10%. Recent testing has identified that under-rolling the perimeter of the safety net (mesh and border rope) significantly reduces stress on individual meshes by distributing the applied load more evenly. This therefore minimizes the likelihood of mesh tear when loaded. Under-rolling has now been adopted by the technical committee as the preferred way in which to reduce the size of safety nets and forms part of the syllabus delivered by training centres. Under-rolling now replaces the previous technique of gathering.
