FASET Accident / Incident Safety Report 2007

The 2007 accident survey carried out by FASET members has revealed that the organisations Accident Incident Rate (AIR) has fallen significantly since records began in 2005.

The report is based on factual information obtained from the membership of FASET which represent a significant part of the UK and Irish Safety Net Rigging industry. 94% of members submitted which is the highest level to date.

FASET statistics compare favourably with other comparable industries including the NSCC & the construction industry in general. In 2007 members reported that there were no fatalities or major injuries within their organisations, compared to the NSCC & Construction industry where there was a fatality rate of 0.02 & 0.34, and a major accident rate of 2.17 & 3.76 respectively. FASET members recorded an over 3 day accident rate of 4.89, which also compares favourably to NSCC’s rate of 8.79 & the construction industry average of 5.99.

These results are a commendable achievement for the membership and demonstrate the high level of effort FASET members place on the management of health and safety within their businesses. It also demonstrates significant continual improvement since records began in 2005, despite the continued increase in reporting.

Falls into a safety net:
There were 56 reported falls into safety nets rigged by FASET members in 2007. Of these known falls there was one minor injury. Since records began in 2005 there have been 134 known falls into safety nets with only two recorded injuries. This data demonstrates the effectiveness of safety nets when used for fall arrest when rigged by competent FASET member contractors.

  • Fatal Incidents (per 1000 workers): 0
  • Major Incidents (per 1000 workers): 0
  • Incidents Over 3 Days (per 1000 workers): 4.89

FASET would like to thank its members for their assistance in producing this report.
